Overview
Throughout 2024, our dedicated Travel Team has been hard at work strategizing, designing, and testing new enhancements to make the travel experience even better. This initiative was a partnership between Travel, Horizon Mobile Foundations, Mobile Design, and UXR.
We aimed to design a solution that could provide value for both goals.
2024 Recap
Our two initial goals were simple:
Business goal - Aim of boosting user retention rates and reducing user abandonment.
User goal - A solution that prioritizes shorter load times and instills user confidence before they enter the destination.
Early on, we identified a significant issue with user abandonment. To address this, we sought to understand why users were leaving our platform mid-journey and what we could do to prevent it.
Through extensive audits of our existing travel systems and multiple UXR studies, we pinpointed several key pain points:
Lack of user engagement opportunities during travel
Lack of preparedness for users entering destination
Unclear loading status
Slow loading times
Armed with this knowledge, we strategized, designed, and implemented targeted solutions to address these issues directly.

3D + Spatial Explorations
In our early design stages, we used Figma for our wire and visual designs. As the project progressed, there became a growing need to explore our system in 3D space.
I began to develop storyboards of the current shell model, incorporating insights from UX, app modeling, and user safety/control workstreams. The purpose of this work was to help drive a narrative on how the shell UI could adapt to various lighting conditions, spatial placement of UI and augments, and deepen our overall understanding of the system.
